Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work in Torrance typically runs $220 to $480 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked gate bracket, fabricating a new mounting plate, or rebuilding a hinge assembly. We stock common Ghost Controls-compatible steel and aluminum weldments on the truck and can usually complete a bracket or hinge repair the same day we look at it. Most owners find us after a gate starts sagging, scraping the driveway, or swinging past its stop because a welded joint finally let go.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls gate openers, including the AXXESS, TSS1, and R Series swing arm kits, all rely on welded steel mounting brackets and hinge assemblies to transfer motor torque to the gate leaf. The weak point is rarely the operator itself. It’s the bracket somebody welded to a gate post ten years ago, or the hinge that was never gusseted properly from the start. When we arrive in Torrance, we check the tag on your Ghost Controls arm and measure the bracket footprint before cutting anything. A TSS1 uses a different post-mount geometry than an AXXESS, and mixing them up means the arm binds and burns out the capacitor over time. We fabricate using 3/16-inch steel plate as our floor standard, not the 1/8-inch stock you see on cheaper aftermarket brackets. That extra thickness is the difference between a gate that holds true and one that starts drifting again after two years of South Bay wind.
We’re an independent gate repair shop in Torrance, not affiliated with Ghost Controls. We match OEM mounting specs and geometry, but we fabricate our brackets in-house so we can add gussets and reinforcement where the original design was light. For most homeowners, a quality fabricated bracket at $80 to $140 beats an OEM plate at roughly the same price because ours won’t flex under a 16-foot gate in a Santa Ana wind.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. A cracked weld at the hinge or post bracket lets the gate settle a half inch or more. The motor has to work harder on every cycle, and you’ll hear it in the operator before you see the crack.
- The gate scrapes concrete or binds mid-swing. When a fabricated mounting plate twists out of square, the swing arc changes. The scrape mark on the driveway tells you exactly where the misalignment started. In Torrance, we see this most often on gates that were welded in place before the driveway was re-poured.
- Welds show rust staining or hairline cracks. Salt air from the Pacific works on raw weld joints faster than people expect. A properly painted and primed weld should go a decade here. Bare steel starts losing the fight in three.
- The operator arm clicks, stalls, or reverses mid-cycle. Ghost Controls arms have an obstruction-sensing circuit. A loose or broken weld bracket trips the same sensor as a car bumper in the way, so the arm stops and reverses.
- You can rock the gate by hand and hear a creak. Gates should feel solid with minimal play. A creak is metal rubbing metal at a joint that has fatigued past its original fit.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Ghost Controls welding and fabrication in Torrance, bracket repair or replacement typically runs $220 to $340. Full hinge assembly fabrication with new pivot pins is usually $380 to $480. The spread depends on access, the condition of the post, and whether we’re reinforcing an existing weld or cutting the old hardware out and starting clean. Every job includes grinding the old weld down, fabricating the bracket or hinge to match your Ghost Controls arm geometry, welding with proper penetration, and repainting the affected area. You get the written price before we strike an arc, and the work is covered under our written guarantee for one full year. If the gate isn’t right, we’re not done.
Some Torrance properties with older gate posts need a post reinforcement sleeve before we can weld a new bracket on. If the post is rotted or the concrete core is crumbling, welding to it just buys you a year. We’ll tell you if that’s the case and show you the post so you can see exactly what we’re seeing before you decide.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check the welds yourself. Grab the gate and push it front to back, watching the bracket at the post and the hinge joints. If you see flex, hear creaking, or spot a rust line running along a weld bead, that’s your problem. What you should not do is try to re-weld a failing gate bracket with a 110-volt flux-core welder from a big-box store. Gate posts see constant load cycling; a cold weld or poor penetration fails without warning, and a 300-pound gate swinging free on a broken bracket is genuinely dangerous. Welding overhead or on a loaded hinge also means working against gravity and spring tension if your Ghost Controls arm has a tension assist. It’s the kind of job that looks simple until it isn’t. We handle these repairs regularly in Torrance, and we’re set up to do it safely with the gate properly supported. If you’d rather not deal with the risk, call (424) 757-9824 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
FAQs
Our fabricated brackets and hinges typically last 12 to 15 years in Torrance, even with the coastal air, because we use 3/16-inch steel and paint every weld with rust-inhibiting primer. The original thin-gauge hardware on many Ghost Controls installs shows fatigue in 6 to 8 years here. Call (424) 757-9824 if you want a bracket check before yours fails.
Sometimes we can. A single clean crack in a thick, well-fitted bracket usually welds back up fine with a proper grind-and-fill. If the crack is rusted along the edges, the metal has thinned, or it’s in a load-bearing corner, replacement is the honest fix and usually cheaper than redoing the repair a year later.
Bracket and hinge fabrication on a Ghost Controls gate usually takes 90 minutes to 2 hours on site, including grinding, welding, and repainting. If we need to sleeve a post or rebuild multiple hinges, it’s a half-day job. We’ll give you the time estimate with your written price.
We carry common Ghost Controls bracket blanks and the steel plate needed to fabricate replacements in the truck. If we need to match an unusual hinge or a nonstandard post, we fabricate at our Torrance shop and come back the next day.
